I have seen quite an increase of people using LED lights at home. I don’t think there is a store left that does not carry LEDs. What is recent, is the addition of the dimmable LED light. It took the industry some time to develop the design needed for LEDs to be dimmable via a special dimmer switch.
LED lights have many advantages, such as:
- Long life: LED bulbs are long lasting and will not need to be replaced for many years.
- LED bulbs produce a fraction of the heat compared to incandescent lights with equal brightness. That can have a big impact in areas where homes are air-conditioned.
- Non-toxic: No mercury is used in manufacturing LED lights
- The low energy requirement makes LED lights the ideal type of lights to use in homes which are powered by PV solar panels or wind power generators.
Incandescent or fluorescent lights cost less than LEDs. Overall however, LEDs are cheaper, because they use much less eletricity and they do last so much longer.
Now that dimmable LEDs are available, you have a lot more options for decorating your home with lights.
